Mrs. C. Wilson Whitston’s interests are broad indeed, yet her allegiance focuses on those concepts which bear on the quality of society. Valedictorian of her high school class, Lucille Whitston earned her B.A. at the University of Southern California with a sociology major. For her master’s thesis at U.S.C. she chose the field of guidance. Lucille also holds a General Secondary Teaching Credential. She was appointed Assistant Coordinator of the Foreign Administrator’s Program at U.S.C., served as president of the Pasadena chapter of the American Association of University Women and directed more than one thousand workers in a Community Chest Geographic Unit. One of the most enjoyable and rewarding of her experiences was that of docent for the greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. This required sixteen weeks of taxonomy seminars prior to conducting children’s tours through the zoo. Other activities have included the California Library League of Northwood, the Altadena Women’s Circle, P.E.O. chapter F.O., Tuesday Musicale, Flintridge Thursday Club, the Forth Planters, the Northwood National Women’s Board, Daughters of the American Revolution and Friends of the Huntington Library. She holds lifetime memberships in Pi Lambda Theta and Phi Delta Gamma. The Whitstons made a gift to Northwood of a ceremonial silver mace, designed by Mrs. Whitston, which has been carried by the Marshall at every commencement of the University for over thirty years.
