1978 – Lubbock, Texas
In 1959, Rosalind Kress Haley became executive director of “Doorstep Savannah.” For ten years the project presented Americanism seminars, programs and speakers to schools, civic groups and professional organizations. In 1965, Mrs. Haley received the Freedom Award of the Order of Lafayette in Washington, D.C. She received this honor along with General Curtis LeMay, Senator Frank Lausche and Congressman Otto Passman. She has been active in the Republican Party, taking part in the conventions of 1964 and 1968. She made her home in Lubbock, Texas with her husband, J. Evetts Haley. She was a member of the Lubbock County Republican Party, Young Americans for Freedom, Patriotic American Youth, The Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League, Conservative Caucus and Women Who Want to Be Women. Mrs. Haley was the mother of three. She has participated in the development of the Rosalind Kress Haley Library, which was donated to Northwood’s Texas campus in Cedar Hill. Of Northwood, she said in 1978, “I have for years sought the most effective medium for reaching the largest number of young people by planting the seeds for lasting understanding of America’s history and explaining the reasons for America’s current plight. I feel Northwood has the best approach to the subject, the proper teachers and facilities for accomplishing this.”
