Founder, Detroit Metropolitan Woman Magazine
In 1963, Alice Florence Croll Sieloff started her journey at Northwood University. She received the first and only associate degree in journalism from Northwood and continued her education to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Shortly after, Alice began her career writing advertising for the J. L. Hudson Company, receiving the company’s “Writer of the Year” Award in 1968.
In 1969, Alice joined The Detroit News and went on to win numerous creative writing and advertising campaign awards during her 15 years there. In 1981, she became the first female member of the “executive committee” for the newspaper. By 1985, Alice became Corporate Marketing Director for Crain Communication, Inc. While there, she worked closely with 26 world-wide publications.
By 1991, Alice had become a publisher for two different area magazines and decided to start her own. She was the founding President, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief for three highly successful magazines: Detroit Metropolitan Woman Magazine, Lansing Metropolitan Women and Grand Rapids Metropolitan Woman.
She was an active member of many community organizations, including the Women’s Committee of the American Lung Association, the Detroit Neighborhood Block Association, the National Association of Women Business Owners, Adcraft Club of Detroit, the Detroit Press Club, and the Women’s Economic Club of Detroit where she served on their Board of Directors.
Notably, Alice served as the chairperson of Northwood University’s National Women’s Board and is receiving the 2023 Distinguished Women Award. Among her many honors, Alice is most proud of receiving the “Dynamic Woman Award” by the Women’s Economic Club of Detroit.
