Student Athlete Advisory Committee

Overview

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) serves as the primary governance arm representing student-athlete interests in Division II affairs. SAAC members serve as student-athlete liaisons that monitor and discuss happenings on campuses, within conference and at the national level.

Northwood expects each DII NCAA Athletic team to have a minimum of two representatives present for monthly meetings. Officers are selected to attend the annual Great Midwest Conference (G-MAC) SAAC meeting and represent Northwood University throughout the year.

SAAC Members

Representatives are responsible for gathering feedback and reporting on behalf of their conference through NU SAAC meetings, as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educational information to both the campus and conference levels.

In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, the committee speaks on behalf of the entire Division II student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure.

Committee Responsibilities

Division II SAAC members serve as voting members on a number of Division II committees, including the Management Council and Presidents Council. The SAAC also has voting authority during the Division II Business Session at the annual NCAA Convention.

Division II National SAAC Mission Statement & Purpose

The mission of the NCAA Division II SAAC is to enhance the voice of the student-athlete to ensure the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image.

Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Guiding Principles

Division II SAAC will be guided by the following principles: ethics, integrity, fairness and a respect for diversity and inclusion, which includes, but is not limited to, attention to gender, race, ethnicity and sport.

Division II SAAC’s purpose is meant to reflect the voice of the student-athlete and should adhere to the following guiding principle in all of its processes and decision making: The well-being of student-athletes is at the center of what SAAC does:

Any process must be flexible and timely, and include effective communication.
Decisions must be fair, reasonable, and consider the potential impact on the student-athlete.
