We welcome admissions from traditional and transfer students, adults returning to college, and international students. Northwood considers many factors in the admissions policy. Northwood University recommends that candidates have a strong interest in pursuing a career in the business world. The first step is to complete the Online Admissions Application and provide the required documents as explained in the online application.

The following areas are evaluated for admission to Northwood University:

  • Cumulative high school and/or college GPA
  • ACT Composite Score or SAT Critical Reading + Math Score
  • Class ranking
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Work experience
  • Community involvement
  • For students who do not meet regular admissions requirements, conditional admission is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Guest Students

Home for the summer? Want to get ahead in your college coursework? Northwood welcomes guest students from other colleges. Admission is granted for a temporary basis so you can take courses while your home.

How do I become a Guest Student?

Obtain and complete a Guest Student application from Northwood and have your home college Registrar’s Office approve it. The normal admissions process is waived. Students must request in writing to Northwood’s Registrar's Office that an official transcript be sent to their home institution following completion of the course(s). 

How does a Northwood student become a Guest Student at another college?

Students must complete a Guest Student application at the Northwood University Registrar’s Office. Only credits transfer to Northwood - grades do not transfer.
Students must request in writing to the guest institution’s Registrar’s Office to have an official transcript sent to Northwood University.

Home-Schooled Students

For applicants who have participated in home school programs, the following must be submitted to Northwood University's Admissions to evaluate the application:

  • An application for admission
  • Academic portfolio 
  • Transcripts of all courses taken including syllabi, course evaluations, and grades for each subject in conformity with standards required by the state of residency OR certified results of the GED
  • Transcripts of any/all traditional high school work
  • Results of the SAT/ACT
  • If submitting a paper application, include a non-refundable $25 application fee. The application fee is waived if you apply to the undergraduate program online.
  • Applicants who do not hold a high school diploma may be admitted by successfully completing the GED examination. ACT or SAT scores are required of all applicants.

International Students

As an international student, your presence at Northwood University enriches our institution in many ways. You provide a diverse perspective on the different cultures that make up our world and your experience and knowledge enrich our classroom discussions and learning. About 7% of the Texas Campus is comprised of international students. Make Northwood your home.  

How to Apply

In choosing to study at Northwood University, you will achieve a successful, career-oriented education at one of America's premier business education institutions. Northwood fully recognizes that business today spans regional and national boundaries, and we have worked to offer a course of study that is well adapted to the competitive conditions of the international marketplace. To apply, fill out an Online Application, and print and submit a Declaration and Certification of Finances Form.

Admissions Criteria

English proficiency is an important consideration in admissions decisions and an important factor in student success when studying at Northwood University. Northwood University accepts scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS exams for measuring English proficiency.

Students who wish to have TOEFL scores sent directly to Northwood University campuses should use the following Institutional TOEFL code 1568. View the TOEFL and IELTS websites for more information about these exams.
