Dr. Timothy Nash Named First David E. Fry Endowed Professor

As an Endowed Professor, Dr. Nash's influence will extend beyond the classroom. He will share The Northwood Idea with audiences everywhere, attracting new friends, new students, and media interest in what we do at Northwood University.

When Dr. David E. Fry retired as President in 2006, the David E. Fry Endowed Professorship was created to thank him for his legacy of leadership and his passion for education. In his 24 years as president, he created a climate where Northwood graduates could thrive in the world of business, global economics, and free markets. The Endowed Professorship allows this passion to be passed on to generations of students.

These professorships will embody Northwood University's economics programs' principles and basic truths:

  • The world's wealth is not fixed but can be increased;
  • Free people can best create wealth useful to all and enabling to the humanity of all the world's people;
  • Individual choice, responsibility, and initiative are requisite for a vibrant society;
  • Differences make us useful to each other so rewarding creative differences must be the goal of a productive society;
  • Education is rooted in the practical considerations of free markets and the spiritual nourishment of all its people.

We are pleased to name Dr. Timothy Nash as the first of The David E. Fry Endowed Professors.In this position, Dr. Nash will teach economics and philosophy across the system, includin. the DeVos Graduate School of Management and for our Adult Degree Programs, and will work with other faculty and staff on whitepapers, media reports, and other philosophical outreach pieces. He will still manage continuing and professional education, and the University of the Aftermarket; work with the specialty undergraduate academic programs; and assist with the Dow/Hantz MBA program. Dr. Nash is well suited to be the first to receive this honor. As both a student of Northwood and later as a teacher and administrator, Dr. Nash benefited from Dr. Fry's instruction. As an Endowed Professor, Dr. Nash's influence will extend beyond the classroom. He will share The Northwood Idea with audiences everywhere, attracting new friends, new students, and media interest in what we do at Northwood University.
