President's Message
Leaders developing leaders.
Greetings:
Leaders developing leaders. It is our pleasure to give a warm welcome to J Ferron, our 4th Chairman of our Board of Trustees; to share remembrances with Jack Hohman, our 3rd Chairman and currently Chairman Emeritus; to profile Leo Jerome, Vice Chairman and Chairman of both the Finance and Compensation Committees; and also to talk with Marjorie Hohman and Lynn Ferron, Jack and J's lovely spouses - ardent supporters and leaders of Northwood in their own right.
Northwood University is fortunate to have such extraordinary role models for our students serving in these vital roles. All aspects of industry are represented on our Board of Trustees -- from successful business people to bold entrepreneurs who are all thought leaders and doers.
A Board of Trustees tends to function behind the scenes, but while what they do may not be visible on a day-to-day basis, the work performed by these dedicated people governs the fiduciary, compliance and planning functions, and provides the foundation of Northwood University. They are talented, hardworking and dedicated individuals. You'll find their stories and why they love Northwood very compelling reading.
We launched our 50th Anniversary celebrations in March and our Founders' Day 2009 was a day to remember. We're giving Don Hunkins, Northwood's Chief Financial Officer for over 27 years, a fond farewell; and as usual, our magazine is filled with news of the exciting things happening on our campuses, on our athletic fields, and with our alumni.
Much is happening here at Northwood University. Our Texas Campus will welcome its inaugural MBA class this fall; we are launching a new graduate degree; our partnerships with industry continue to expand; our 2009 graduates are finding opportunities in the work force, even in today's challenging economy; and the need for highly skilled managers and business people is as critical now as never before.
You will note the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) label on the inside front cover of this issue.
We are pleased to report the Northwood Idea magazine has officially "gone green." FSC certification represents the benchmark in environmental sustainability and social responsibility for forest management practices. The presence of the FSC label attests to the fact the paper comes from a forest managed to the highest standards.
Highest standards...exactly what our founding philosophy, The Northwood Idea, charges us to meet.
I know you'll like what you see in this edition of the Northwood Idea and as always we welcome your comments and feedback at president@northwood.edu.
Keith A. Pretty, J.D.
