Transfer Students

Students interested in transferring to Northwood must be in good standing at an accredited college or university. Call the Admissions Office of the Northwood campus you are planning to attend. An admissions counselor will help guide you through the process. Transfer student scholarships are available.

Which Kind of Transfer Student Are You?

Transfer students fall into two categories:
1. Students who have earned an associate's degree from an accredited community or junior college.
2. Students who do not yet possess an associate’s degree and are transferring from an accredited college or university.

1. Transfers with an Associate's Degree

Northwood University recommends finishing the associate’s degree before transferring to Northwood. This ensures the transfer of all associate degree course credits. Upon admission, junior status is immediately received.

Most schools cannot guarantee junior status to students with an associate's degree. Northwood University does. Northwood University offers associate's degree programs. In effect, you have paralleled our associate's degree; therefore, it is possible to transfer everything.

2. Transfers Who Will Not Have an Associate's Degree Before Transferring

An associate's degree is not required to apply as a transfer student to Northwood.  If transferring after completing more than two years at another school, Northwood requires transfer students to complete at least 44 term hours at Northwood (a total of 185 term hours for graduation). Northwood does not require a two-year residency to graduate, as many other schools do.

A Northwood academic advisor will review your school transcript(s) to determine which courses will transfer and how many credits will be accepted. Only courses with a "C" or better will transfer.

Talk to an Admissions Representative

If you are considering transferring to Northwood University, it is strongly advised that you talk with a Northwood admissions representative about your courses and credits.

Many Transfer Equivalency Guides have already been created. There is one guide for each school that shows exactly which courses, and how many courses at that school, will transfer to Northwood.

Financial Assistance is Available

Northwood University offers Transfer and Private Donor Scholarships. It is recommended that you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
