What is the LRC?
The Learning Resource Center (LRC) on Northwood’s Florida campus offers a variety of programs to help you improve your academic performance at any level. The LRC is for you, whether you want to:
- Get top grades in your classes
- Get a higher grade in a specific course or
- Improve your skills and opportunities to succeed in college and life.
What services are available?
Enrolled students may participate in the Academic Tutoring Program and the Student Success Program.
- The Academic Tutoring Program provides Accounting, Math, and Writing Labs. Get individualized help on a first come, first served basis. Bring your assignments, books, and specific questions. Study groups are welcome in Accounting and Math. Writing Lab is for individuals and appointments are encouraged. Labs are held at different times in different locations, so check the posted hours each term.
- The Student Success Program includes:
- The LRC on Blackboard with resources available from any computer
- Tutoring Lab hours
- Computer Lab hours
- Study Tips and Techniques
- Writing Tips
- Academic Success Workshops (and earn EXCEL credit):
Time Management, Effective Studying, Test-Taking, Reducing Stress, Writing a Research Paper, Individual Academic Support for skills that help you succeed in any area of college. Students develop Action Plans with a specialist that may include participation in Academic Tutoring Labs, Academic Success Workshops, or referrals to other Northwood departments, as well as recommendations for individual sessions. Individual Academic Support Sessions may involve learning: - Time management, active studying, test-taking, and other skills.
- Writing fundamentals that are not taught in college classes.
- College Reading skills, such as finding the main point, techniques for remembering what you read, and critical thinking.
- Pre-Algebra Skills.
Are these LRC programs open to all students?
Yes! All LRC programs are free to all enrolled students who want to improve their academic performance. Whether you want to improve your grades from ‘B’ to ‘A’ or from ‘D’ to ‘C’, or just want a good place to study where help is nearby, there is something for You!
